OSEN :: About the OSEN
The Oregon Symposium for Entrepreneurial Nonprofits [OSEN] provides training and technical assistance to people interested in starting waste-based social enterprises. It is based on the programs of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County, an international leader in the field of waste-based business development.

Our flagship program is an intensive five-day business course, which offers tours of successful waste-based businesses; classroom instruction on the tools necessary to start a social enterprise; and opportunities to network and build relationships with others in the field. It is open to managerial staff at nonprofits and municipal recycling and solid waste programs. The first training seminar will be offered in June 2006; applications will be available in January 2006.

OSEN staff are currently developing a how-to guide for nonprofits interested in starting waste-based social enterprises. The guide should be available in November; please check back!

Technical assistance and consulting are also available. Services include:
  • Assistance to evaluate or establish a waste-based social enterprise based on those already established by SVDP. For more information about our recycling programs, see the Recycling page.
  • Tours of SVDP’s facilities and opportunities to interview staff.
  • Residential training, where a member of your staff can work with SVDP staff to learn a specific skill.
For more information about pricing and availability of these services, contact OSEN staff.
